Former ARTCH Singer To Represent Iceland In EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
April 10, 2007Eirikur Hauksson (a.k.a. Eric Hawk) of ARTCH fame will represent Iceland in this year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Valentine Lost", which is described as "a hard rock ballad-type of thing." This is Eirikur's third appearance at Eurovision, his first being in 1986 for Iceland with the ICY group and then in 1991 for Norway with the band JUST 4 FUN.
In a recent interview with ESCForever.com, Hauksson was asked why he decided to participate in Eurovision again this year. "I did say no — twice!" he replied. "But I loved this song from the beginning, it was like it had been written for my voice. So I thought; I want to represent this for Europe, if it goes that far — and it did, so now I am ready!"
Regarding the "Valentine Lost" track, he said, "This is a 'hail-to-rock-'n'-roll song. This artist is in a state in his life where most things are against him, and the only 'healing' is through his music. I have been on that crossroad myself, so I have no trouble showing my feelings performing this."
A promotional video for the song "Valentine Lost" can be found at this location. A clip of Eirikur Hauksson performing track in the Icelandic Eurovision finals on February 17 can be viewed here (Note: Eirikur sang the original Icelandic-language version of the song, "Ég les í lófa þínum").
Hauksson's victory in the Icelandic Eurovision finals was overwhelming — the track "Ég les í lófa þínum" got 60 percent of all votes.
